Grace's Meme

I love reading the answers other kiddos give for this meme (I think Elise's were my fav so far - just too cute to hear a 3 year old's answers), and I wanted to see how Grace would answer. So here it is...

What is your name?
Why do you need to know this? Grace.

How old are you?
Nine

When were you diagnosed with diabetes?
January 26... 2008? (She wasn't sure of the year... it was 2009)

Do you remember what happened when you were diagnosed or how you felt?
I was cranky, really, really thirsty, had to go to the bathroom a lot.

Do finger pokes or shots [or site insertions/infusion set changes] hurt?
Not anymore.

What is a high number?
Above 180

What is a low number?
Below 70

What does low blood sugar feel like?
Um... I'm shaky. Sometimes I feel a little weak.

What’s your favorite way to treat a low?
Usually glucose tablets.

How do you feel when your blood sugar level is high?
I don't really want to do anything, or I go into my own personal world and sit on the couch.

What’s the best thing about having diabetes?
You get to have candy when some kids don't

What’s the worst thing about having diabetes?
Getting finger pricks and sitting out on activities when my blood sugar's low.

Do you worry much about diabetes?
No, not really.

If one of your friends were diagnosed with diabetes, what would you say to that friend?
It's okay, it's not that difficult when you get used to it.

What’s your favorite food?
What do you mean... in general? I don't really have one.

What’s your favorite snack?
(Pause, this took a lot of thinking...) Lays potato chips

What’s your favorite low-carb food?
Smart Food Popcorn

Kind of

Do you know that I blog about diabetes?
Yes

No, not really

Why do you think I blog about diabetes?
To share your experiences and to talk to some mom's of kids with diabetes and learn some new stuff.

A cure

(paused, until I told her she could name more than one) CG, S, SM

What do you like about him/her/them?
They're nice, friendly, they don't tease me about having diabetes

What’s your favorite thing to do?
Play soccer or swim

Do you have a hero?
Yes. (She wouldn't say more. I asked her if she wanted to tell me who her hero is, she blushed and said, "You." )

What do you want to be when you grow up?
A teacher

Who’s your favorite person in the whole wide world?
Probably you and Daddy

Are you afraid of anything?
Yes. (What?) I am afraid of the dark. Certain times I get a little freaked out if I'm alone.
