This Is It

This is what a blood sugar of 477 looks like.

It's what having ketones so high you throw up looks like.

This is what you end up looking like when the insulin in your pump heats up too much.

It's what having to leave a sleepover at a friend's house before breakfast because you feel so bad looks like.

It's what a blood sugar of 55 AFTER the 477 looks like.

It's what having to miss your first ski lesson with your brother and sister because you feel like poo looks like.

This is what it looks like to have your body ravaged by out of control blood sugars.

This is what diabetes on a bad day looks like.

  1. I know that face too. So sorry she had a shitty day. I hope she starting to feel better and things are looking up! The worst for me are all the variables of it. Was it a bad site? Tubing? Hot insulin?! Makes me dizzy.

  2. Oh no...I'm soooo sorry she had to go through that :( It's not often that people who aren't living it get to see what diabetes on a bad day looks like, I only wish the world could see so they would have a better understanding of why it's such a difficult and scary disease.

It's a rude reminder as to why we as parents work so hard to raise awareness, raise money to fund research and reach out to our amazing DOC for the understanding and support that we so desperately need.

I'm sending big hugs your way, hoping she is feeling better real soon!

  6. Oh my gosh, Pam! That face is so miserable I just want to come on over (wherever 'over' is) and snuggle up with her, kiss her on that sweet little nose and tell her everything will be better and never to return.

But, sadly it won't. Because D sucks and this is what it looks like.

Poor, poor baby. Tell her all of us D-mom's are sending her hugs and kisses and fist bumps. Hehe

  8. Well funny thing happened. I am sitting here looking at Grace's pic and Bridget and Joe walk up and want to see your Walk video. Her photo looks just like the low photo on the video....and I, of course started crying like a baby when I had to choke out the words (as I was reading the caption of the video to Bridget and Joe) "and I have type 1 diabetes"...and the tears flowed and flowed and flowed. Four years and I still weep. Love you and Grace. Tell her Bridget, Joe and I love her and hope she feels better. Joe knew that look all too well.
